To ensure the structural integrity of a new dam in Georgia, United Rentals engineered a custom chilled water system to cool the concrete mixing process, overcoming high municipal water temperatures and preventing cracking during curing. This critical cooling solution allowed the project to maintain its aggressive schedule.

Maintaining the correct temperature of the concrete during the mixing and curing process for a large dam construction project in Georgia was challenging. The municipal water supply used in the concrete mix was too warm, potentially leading to cracking and compromising the dam's structural integrity. This required a custom cooling solution to ensure the concrete met the required temperature specifications.

The successful construction of a dam using approximately 235,000 cubic yards of roller-compacted concrete and over 12,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete was impressive, all while adhering to strict temperature requirements to prevent cracking and ensure structural integrity. The dam will also hold five billion gallons of water, providing an additional source of drinking water for the Atlanta area.
